Heather Bock

Director of Construction, Denver Public Schools

Why should HCC members vote to have this nominee on the board of directors?

Heather Bock, Director of Construction for Denver Public Schools, oversees the district’s Bond-funded construction program and capital planning initiatives that directly impact Colorado’s largest K-12 system. A long-time supporter and active participant in HCC events, Heather has strengthened the DPS–HCC partnership by championing opportunities for small, minority-, and woman-owned businesses and being a vocal supporter of the Small Business Enterprise (SBE) program’s relaunch post-COVID, while DPS’s Office of Business Diversity has further supported HCC through initiatives such as funding a summer intern. In her role, she manages the daily complexities of dozens of construction projects running simultaneously, navigating and overcoming challenges while also forward-planning for the district’s long-term needs—requiring a keen understanding of industry trends, market capacity, and evolving community priorities. Heather began her career in construction, shifted into architecture, and ultimately returned to construction because it is where her heart and soul truly belong, particularly when combined with public service. Before joining DPS, she worked on a Montbello project where she fought to include a washer and dryer outside of district specifications— not knowing that 60% of the students were homeless. When the school opened, the principal handed out clean uniforms and returned washed clothes to students at the end of the day, a transformative experience that showed Heather the difference between simply doing a job and doing something that changes lives. That perspective, coupled with her leadership and deep alignment with HCC’s mission, makes her an outstanding candidate for the Board of Directors.
